Phillip Island Where to fish Landbased

Post by Boonanza » Sun Jan 05, 2014 2:58 pm

G'day Fellas my son is headed up to phillip island for a few days and wanted to know where is to fish there landbased. If anyone has any spots that might be worth a try that would be great.
PS: We don't have surf gear

Cheers Steve

Under the sand dunes at cleeland bight, park the car at woolamai surf club and walk the path through. you can see it on google maps.

You can catch whiting and squid fairly consistently straight off the beach and you don't need surf gear. light rods and running sinker rigs with 1/0 hooks for the whiting and a little squid or pipis works pretty well.

Or walk along the beach as far as You want to and fish the numerous rock platforms for bigger species

Fished new haven pier today, saw a pinkie caught - 40+ cms. A nice elephant shark. And 2 large salmon. I caught a 2 wrasse and my dads mate caught a wrasse and a toadfish. Saw entry of other undesirables caught
Angling is the name given to fishing by people that can't fish
