Sold in the market as bulleye gurnard. Very common in Bass Strait. Spines give you hell if you get stuck by one. Best treatment is bath effected area in hot water, as hot as you can stand. It is the slime on the spines that is poisonous. Use tin snips to cut off the spines before you clean them. Then just fillet and skin them.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
