Re: What is this ?
Good idea. Normally I return it and the other tools (stainless long nose pliers and hook removal tool) into the tool post. But like usual I was solo yesterday and busier than a one legged man in a bum kicking contest, had 3 and 4 rods out at a time and was kept busy with big blue throat, mackerel and pinkies.
Waiting for the gummy that never came.

Re: What is this ?
Looks like a butterfly perch. Doesn't quite have the same pattern as a barber perch. Both good eating but they don't grow to big

Re: What is this ?
Usually just call them sea perch but their real name is barber perch. They turn fluoro blue when they mature and change to males. Really good eating especially the bigger ones (30cm ish). Butterfly perch are different

Re: What is this ?
Barber perch usually have a black marking on them. Looks more like a butterfly perch. I've never caught 1.
Caught hundreds of barber perch and never seen 1 look like that....

Re: What is this ?
Thanks fellas, definitely no black spot like the butterfly Perch I saw on google images. But it does look like a Pink Maomao I saw on google in the same search ?
They did have a bright blue strip under each eye, but it's not so prominent in my picture.
Most of the fishes I got yesterday were baro trauma affected. I noticed after the first 10 meters up they gave up quickly. I was fishing in about 40 meters off Barwon on a gummy mark.
Does look like a red perch like eddyt stated. Cheers.
