Unknown fish (Mornington/soft plastics)

I caught a few of these at Mornington Pier this morning. They were lurking around the pylons and took small, scented plastics. There was some colour variation, too -- this character was silvery, but some other models had a fair bit of red in them. Not much fight to them, either. The largest I caught was maybe 20 centimetres. A guy reckoned they were nannygai, but I didn't think they could be found so far south.
