'Gourami' have 2 very long tentacles below the head , and are tropical fish.
In that first pic, it almost looked like a 'Pink Kisser' to me, but they are tropical fish too.
Got me stumped what it is ? , I've never seen one before.
Almost has a bit of a perch look to it to me ? . Amanda could be right too.
Cheers , Rick.

Yep, definitely a souther silverbelly, or silverbitty. Used to be quite common when we were fishing for whiting around Balnarring, but have seemed to have dropped in numbers in the past decade or so.

Yay !!
Glad I could help.
Call me old fashioned, but referring to my trusty book works most times. Yes a book, you know, with a front and a back and stuff printed on paper
Lets hope these little fellas come back in numbers. Always good to see species in good health and numbers.
Cheers
