Snapper off the surf

Post by smokin_reels » Thu Jun 09, 2016 11:09 am

Hey Guys,

With Snapper season a couple of months away , I have been longingly toying with idea of catching one of the beach?

Is it possible around Melbourne?

I'm pretty new to Australia and have managed to wrangle a few decent fish and would like to try and set a new target , without it being absolutely ridiculous.

Im thinking maybe September , off a place like gunnamatta?

P.S. The bycatch is going to be rewarding, hence the appeal.

I've never seen or heard of one at Gunnamatta.

There is a little place between Gunnamatta and Cape Schanck called Fingal Bay that should produce pinkies. Guys talk about them at Portsea / London Bridge area as well.

I've seen pictures of pinkies caught off the beaches between Flinders and Somers. Not sure that is 'surf' though.

I'm sure I read a report on this forum of one being caught around Lorne. Or at least one of the beaches down that way.

Might be good fun, anything to stay away from crowded city piers with hooligans passing of for anglers.
