After having a memory pop up on facebook(today was the day 2yrs ago someone caught a horse salmon at 3.86kg).
I decided to look at the conditions for the back beaches, after seeing what was forecast I came home early and got the gear out and gave it the once over as it hasn't been used for a while.
Conditions were just what I liked high at around 3 with a falling tide leading to sunset.
Surprisingly there was only a cpl of bait fishos down there when we got there and they were packing it in as we headed to the beach.
I wasn't expecting a lot, as it's been a while since I've punched slugs out into the surf and a few stuff ups cost me a bit of skin off the finger.
It wasn't long though before I felt the unmistakable tap tap and I was on, only to drop it almost immediately, then Matari called out that he was on and for the next 1hr & 45 mins or so it was pretty much a fish a cast landing a few and dropping a few in the wash, when they stopped, we moved all of 10m and it started again, I think all up we probably moved 30m once we found the fish. With us both landing and releasing a good bag of fish varying between 1.2kg to 2kg.
Can't wait for the next trip, though it may be a while away with the forecast ahead.
