Johanna Beach Report.

Post by Al03 » Thu Jun 25, 2020 7:36 am

Did a day trip yesterday to Johanna.
Fished the incoming time from 10.30 to 1330 and an hour after that.
Lots of small salmon, and I mean small.
Baits were squid, pippy and chicken fillet.
Every time I fish this beach it seems to get deeper! Had a surfer 100 yards or so from us enter the water and end up armpit deep in the water within about 10 yards.
Fished a deep hole, four ounce would just hold if you mended your line consistently.
Fluked two good mullet on my last two casts so had something to bring home.
Found that berley was also very helpful.
If you haven't fished this beach before, be careful!
The undertow is extreme and if you end up in the drink wearing waders you are in all sorts of trouble.
Not great results, but what a beach this is.
Looking forward to my next visit to this place.

It's a shame you didn't fish it on monday when it was heavily overcast and a bit of rain. If it was sunny yesterday that's why you didn't catch much, particulary at the times you fished it. High or low tide at sun up or sun down would have been better, I love that beach

Your right about my times not being great, but that's all I could manage to do yesterday.
Johanna is just epic, even my Mrs when she comes along just can't get over it as she calls it, THAT beach.
It's a bit like that old song, "Echo Beach", this place does seem far away in time.
I don't need great results when I fish this place as the just being there, is all that really matters to me.

Yeah, it's a special beach, I envy the fact that you were actually there

Good luck, but when it's on you can expect a nice Mulloway or gummy

Fished the Apollo bay side. The other side had heaps of surfers.

My last trip to Johanna...I caught a few big salmon and endless mullet with burley, I had no luck on the Gummy's but that night I saw some guys get two really big fat Gummy's ... Breath taking place,, an over nighter is a must it's too far as a day trip IMO.
