Re: salmon tips
The metal slugs that the guys use are the halco twisties, lazers and gillies baitfish. Depending on where you are fishing that will dictate the size / weight.
Soft plastics you can use worms / grubs, paddletails and minnows.
Bait I have caught them on everything from pillies, white bait to squid.

Re: salmon tips
It's great you brought this up because I wanted to know more about metal lures too.
I've read that you should attach a swivel to the metal circle on the lure to prevent line breakages and twists.
Just slot it on like you were attaching key rings together.
You can also use bream gear. That surprised me a lot. Estuary gear with noodle rods work well apparently, so no need for big rods!

I use SP and HB on local piers.

Re: salmon tips
Last time we catched salmon they were targeting my hooks with chicken breast, and they went crazy for it

Re: salmon tips
if your on a boat and see them busting up, go up wind of them and drift into them quietly, cast metal slugs and wind as fast as you can, if you cant see them use soft plastics

Re: salmon tips
In the bay, 7' rod, 2500 size reel, sp's hardbody's etc or small metals. Back beaches....different kettle of fish. 9' rods, 4000 size reel, 5kg braid, 500mm of 16lb leader, 40-50gram slugs. Laser's, gillies baitfish, whatever your personal preference takes you. I've tried quite a few, and I like those two brands because they a) catch fish, and b) they fly really well, which sounds stupid, but a lot of metal slugs are she-ite for good distance casting, and at times you will need to be casting distance to catch fish.

Re: salmon tips
If you can get somewhere around rocks or surf, casting slugs or soft plastics directly into the white water is the way to go.
Salmon love whitewash.
I have some great new Shads & minnows at my shop if you need some. Also have a few different sized metal lures too.
Don't forget your 20% off too
cheers Amanda
