Arrived at gunnamatta 630am this morning, ive never seen it so flat!!
Was a seal swimmin around scaring all thr fish away.
soaked some bait,threw around a 25gm slug,managed 1 salmon (43/44cm) (felt awesome its been a while)
Only other thing I caught was a puffer??fish on squid..
Puss enjoyed the salmon head immenselyImageImageImageImage

i WISH it was a few!!!
was hopin you werent gonna ask about my set up. i had my surf rod(RedWolf 12')with (dont know line poundage) on a Diawa Sweepfire 4000X using paternoster, and was spinning with my Fin-Nor 6'6 boat rod with a AbuGarcia Freeliner reel..again,no idea of the poundage.im guessing 20lb(ish).they both mono.
did that answer suffice? i know,im shocking!! gotta get myself a more apt rod for tossin slugs.

Yeah. Get a 9 footer if you want to spin. You'll want to fish with a 10 or 11 the first time, but the 9 is absolutely perfect. Trying to cast with a 6'6 rod is probably ok on the really calm days like yesterday but going to cause you problems as soon as there is a bit more white water.

The rest seems pretty good, I wouldn't try and spin surf without braid, but there is no reason you won't get fish.

braid you reckon..is that coz of the lack of stretch making it easier to sense?

Codeine Carl? You ok mate?

Yeah, the lack of stretch gives you absolute contact with the fish. I use it almost exclusively, bait as well. Site sponsors SFP sell reasonably priced braid that is good quality or Tacklenut is having a sale at the moment.

Your 4000 reel is perfect, but a 12 foot rod is too long and heavy and clumsy for extended spin sessions, and NO WAY will you get enough range on your 6'6 if the fish are anywhere but right in close.

You can get a 9 foot spinner for less than 100, no need to buy a premium one, the basic range is completely fine. I use a Shimano Catana 902 which i got on sale for 81 but they retail between 99-109 depending on the store.
