Experienced person at Portland.

Hi all,
have just picked up a second hand tinny, forward steer, 4.2 metres, 35 horse Evinrude, one elderly owner.
Am also going to attach my 9.9 Evinrude to the transom as an auxiliary in case of main engine failure.
Have done the bearings on the trailer and also fitted two new tyres as well, the tyres were over 15 years old!
Will be doing a fresh water run up my way once both engines have been serviced to get the feel of things and to keep it simple for my maiden voyage in this outfit.
Am intending to also fish Portland with this outfit.
Will be staying within 2 miles of the land.
What I am seeking is someone who is experienced at Portland.
Prefer someone who is mature aged, experienced in the local waters, who has an emphasis on safety first.
Am also intending on making a day of it and hopefully catching some fish!
Have fished land based at Portland for nearly 30 years and are now wanting to try my luck off shore.
My Mentor will be expected to assist me with launching and retrieving said boat as well as other deckie etiquette as previously mentioned on this forum.
Hoping if I can find the right person that this could be an ongoing arrangement.
I primarily fish during the week and avoid Weekends like the plague.

Ok the serious stuff, does your boat have an outboard well and what fish do you intend on targeting.

It was Evinrude that got me junk....

Take it easy on old mate. Beside not all evinrude are rubbish. Had one for 6 years. No issues that weren’t operator error.

Nope, no outboard well. Will be attaching 9.9 "short shaft", to a hitec bracket on transom.
Planning on some frogs, whiting and maybe some snapper or gummies with a bit of luck.

Yup, that was my thought as well.
Have a marine mechanic who is going to do the fitting of the 9.9 for me.
He assures me that it won't be a problem.
9.9 weighs just over 30 kgs.

If the budget allowed, I'd be looking at boat collars and perhaps an electric trolling motor as an auxiliary (its more versatile, lighter & weight is all up front)
From what I've read on here over the years is that if you're planning on fishing close to shore, Jan-Feb is your best bet (you'll get school tuna & Kingies & you wont get hypothermia if you get wet)
