Did buy the correct bearing that's a square axle needs a Ford bearings

Check the numbers on the old bearings they have to match the numbers on the new ones

Those bearing kits are poor quality and not suitable for marine application.

I don't have a boat trailer but do my tradie trailer every year. I use Timken and always use the marine ones and replace them every year and never have any problems and don't have to worry about them for the rest of the year.

I usually pick them up online for around $40 each so for less than $100 it's piece of mind while I'm on the road.

When I plan on doing them I grease them up a day or so before and put them in glad wrap so that they are ready then it's easy to just take the wheel and hub off give it a good clean and spray with degreaser than put it all together.

The bonus of doing it every year is nothing gets rusted and siezed and the grease is always fresh.

If the bearing you take out are still good give them a clean and grease them up and put them in sandwich zip lock bags and throw them in the boat just incase your ever caught out.

Also don't over fill the hub because it will blow the back seal off. As long as the bearings are grease packed properly you just need a little bit on the shaft and a little in the hub and your good to go.

Hi joker are you sure the numbers etched on the bearing housing are the same. Did you replace the cup that's the bit the bearing runs in just make sure you put it in the right way round.

When I remove the old bearings I clean inspect them check the numbers on them and buy from a reputable source like bearing services if the bearings are in reasonable condition you can regrease and reinstall. I always carry a spare wheel bearing grease and seal just in case. I also have a long trip recovery box has spare bearings, grease, hydraulic fluid , brake pads, bearing buddies, rags etc just in case.

Looks like you got the wrong hub, it looks shorter than the one you are replacing. Have you still got the old one? I always take the parts I am replacing with me when I go to buy new ones and do a quick compare, saves much hassle.

I know when to admit defeat guys. Not sure what’s going on any more. I can’t even get the bloody old bearing and hub on properly to understand how it works. I’m considering removing the other hub also to understand what the hell is going on :@:@:@

Nudeup - I replaced the entire hub, bearings etc. it’s one of those packs from BCF that cost approx. $50

Sandef- indeed they are mate. They are going to get changed now also.

Keenads - thanks for the tips mate. It’s probably a good idea to do it annually. Once I figure this out, I’ll probably start to do the same.
