What battery trickle charger are you using ?

Post by hornet » Mon Apr 27, 2020 2:12 pm

Hey guys just got my boat up and running ... as the title states, I'm in the market for a battery trickle charger so what brand and model do you use ? I have a pull start Johnson 25 2 banger but all the electrics still use battery power, seeing the engine doesn't have an alternator I need the battery kept charged when stored in the garage ready for the next trip.

i have the older version of this.

6 years and its still going, i got it on sale for almost half the price.
only issue i have wiht it is the quick release plugs do get a bit loose once in a while and will give an error on the charger, a long nose plier and a gentle squeeze sorts that out.

Check out on line if you can fit a rectifier to your engine - Do some research as I did. Fitted one to my Mercury 2017 15hp 2 stroke. 12v supply issue covered.

Use a Battery Link by Haigh 6 - 12V Part No.CHS075. Has it since 2017 cost $55 from Auto Pro store. Constantly connected; boat kept in garage.

Thx for all the input guys I really appreciate it ! at this stage so far I'm liking the Noco smart chargers, well priced and a heap of features.

The CTEK is a close second but I think the Noco has the edge at present comparing price per features.

This is the one fitted in my boat it is always connected. When I built my current house I ensured a power point was close to the boat. I have had this boat for 6 years and never had an issue.

I only have a small tinny and limited room but if I had a larger boat with a cabin I'd have one like yours nudie..

I've had my CTEK for 8 years and it hasn't missed a beat charging 2 big starter batteries and a huge house battery, It charges both starter batteries together plus does my cars and bikes.

I also have a Victron Blue smart charger that charges my Lithium batteries and seems good so far (Had it for 2 years).

Cheers, Anth
