Anchor rope & chain replacement

Had to replace my anchor chain so thought I'd replace the rope at the same time (bought the kit from Lone Star)...does anyone know where the smaller rope (on the left) is meant to go?

Lone Star said it was for 'extra flex' and they dont use it in their kits anymore because the normal rope is fine by itself.... I then rang Boat Hardware and the guy there said you place it between the normal rope & the chain and when it starts to fray (I guess this is where seafloor durability comes in), you can replace the 5 metres (8mm) top-shot instead of cutting it short or replacing the entire rope.

So the moral or the story is: throw a few metres of thicker top-shot in between your rope and chain and check your anchor rope for wear and tear occasionally....replacing anchor, chain, anchor swivel, chain sock & shackles is expensive.

Did you buy the black cover for the chain it cuts the noise down by at least 50%.

I recently replaced a capstan winch and fitted a lonestar gx2 it is a great winch easy to install reasonably priced I would have preferred a free fall but they are $1000 more.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I'll be looking at the smaller version gx1. I'm only hoping to run a single battery. Have you got a dual battery setup? Any thoughts if I'd get bybwith a single

I've got the Lonestar GX1 and dual batteries (could run off a single battery, but if your using it a lot dual would be safer)....had a chain sock on the old one, not putting it on the new one at this stage purely because it's a tedious job.
I'll certainly be changing the rope every 5 years or so....it looked like friction had burnt the rope flat in some spots when I changed it over today.
