Anchor rope & chain replacement

Ok nice. I'll see how I go with a single. Places I've checked in on it have suggested can get away with a single battery but need quality battery and keep on charge at home. I carry a power jumppack thing as a backup now.
That's interesting about the rope. Will keep an eye on that down the track

Have you got a Lonestar Anchor winch??

I recently replaced a capstan winch and fitted a lonestar gx2 it is a great winch easy to install reasonably priced I would have preferred a free fall but they are $1000 more.

As long as you start your engine prior to using the winch I think you would be ok. Yes I have dual batteries but sometimes I only use one when in the bay.
I watched a you tube video on how to put the sock which made it very easy.

Ok thanks nude up. I intend to only use it in the bay but moving around quite a bit for whiting etc. the times the few I've pushed out the entrance only ever drift as not yet confident to anchor up yet. Will keep building the experience though

Also, any noticeable difference with the extra weight up the front? Ive got a pretty light tinny

Dual batteries and the associated wiring is a load of hog wash if u fishin the bay
Replace your battery with a good marine one every 2/3 years and you wont have any probs
The current draw for elect and electronic gear in a boat now is next to nothing so it wont go flat on ya
In the past 5 years ive been out fishing for whiting-Day and Night for about 500hrs which equals to over 1000 trips and ive just replaced my 3rd battery.
I put my battery on a slow charge about every month over night
I run the usual gear and a GX1 lone star winch and mainly fush for whiting

As Dennis said and start engine first which should be done before attempting to raise the anchor anyway
The GX1 motor is only 600watts so doesnt draw much current anyway

Dual batteries are a redundancy for if something goes wrong with your main battery.

Sounds like that will be the plan. The winch has its own isolator as well and will need to be disciplined in having motor running. Even now I'll turn on motor before pulling anchor up
