Good size bilge pump... Only time you'll cop water over is reversing into waves, a well stuck in anchor with not enough rope out and a ducky type scenario. In most cases you'll still end up with water in the boat with an engine well setup anyway

water will come in wether you like it or not in a transom like that.
as mentioned already, when reversing water will come in if its a bit rough. ive also had water come in when its at anchor and its very choppy, little by little it will come over the transom
a good bilge pump will sort out the problem easily though....
i have seen the transoms welded up with sheet metal to form a full transom style, but it think its not necessary and will have a lot to do with what shape of motor you get. you do loose some space in the back if going down that route..

Had a 4.3m stacer back in the 80s/90s and never had any issues
As long as you as u use it in the appropriate conditions u should be ok
