Smart craft/vessel view question

Post by Grasshopper67 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 11:22 pm

Ok the second hand boat I have bought comes with only one smart craft tacho gauge (sc1000)

But it does not have the 2nd Smartcraft speedo gauge.

This bugs me bcz I like to look at a gauge with speed. What is best option to set up a Speedo gauge bcz Merc dealer tells me it will cost another $1000 to install the smart craft speedo gauge.

Is vessel view the answer ? BTW is a 2016 Mercury 60 hp 4 stroke

Some people put GPS's in their cars that register speed
Might help, don't know

Your dealer ain't gouging, sc1000 gauges are ******* expensive. But here's the kicker, getting another sc1000 installed will be cheaper than changing over to either a Vessel View 403 (over $1500 on its own without install) or Vessel View Link (works only with Navico products Simrad and Lowrance and is $1100). Plus any additional nmea2000 parts needed to integrate it. It depends on how much info you want displayed and how "neat" you want it with either a single small screen, using only your current sounder/MFD or having the 2 small sc1000 gauges. And how much you're willing to empty the wallet to

yes its called SOG (speed on ground) you can change it t read in knots, km/hr etc.. and your current unit will have it on the top left hand side of the screen in GPS mode..

if you had a Elite ti or higher spec unit, you can then connect to your engine (if compatible) and have a readout of pretty much every engine parameter you need info on.
look into it, only if you want to upgrade your sounder gps unit, otherwise its not worth the hassle. however it may be cheaper than a smart craft unit.
cheers

Have you considered VesselView Mobile? You buy a Bluetooth device (about $400) download the app (free) on your phone or tablet and you are good to go! Simple to setup too.
I have one and it works well

Yes I read about that too and it’s preferable to buying a smart craft gauge ! Thanks really helpful !

only just saw this now,
the 60 Mercury EFI doesnt really support the speedo and its extra uses. Really you only need the tacho for those motors anyway. All the good information is in the tacho
