Regarding turning around in the surf zone. Yes you can and it is often the correct decision. It requires skills in judging the swell and throttle control confidence. Firstly you need to time your moment and turn between waves when there is sufficient distance between them to complete the turn. Once deciding to turn then there must be no hesitation. Put the wheel hard over and throttle up. As you complete the turn you need to go pretty much full throttle till you catch the wave Infront , then reduce speed so that you sit just on the back of it. Never do it with an underpowered vessel.
