Aborted Bar Crossing

Post by CannonsJS » Thu Mar 18, 2021 2:38 pm

I went for a walk down to the entrance a couple of weeks ago when nobody was going out. The next thing I see a Savage Osprey (?) coming up the channel looking like he was going to have a go, so I took out the phone thinking I was going to record a disaster. I hear a lot of people saying you don't turn around once you have committed to the crossing, but in this case he made the right decision, well other than the fact he went as far as he did..

Glad they made it back safe and sound.

There's another video on FB of one with the captain making the same decision but the result was more catastrophic with the boat capsized and fishing crew rescued at Barwon Head.

Think will stick to PPB and WP for now

No point in being there, far too rough offshore. That is why the bar is like that. Also attempting it on the ebb tide. Not the cleverest person.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

I just watched that vid.
The captain made the turn fine , it was his lack of skil, experience when driving in n side on with wave that stuffed him.
The guy holding life jacket in his hand was pretty poor.

I know nothing about boating but he’s either got big balls or a death wish. Stuffed if I’d even attempt that. Give me a river bank any day.
