Was mounted on portside when I bought boat.
Only reads at walking pace.

That gives a pretty good run down on it.

Looks to me like it's to high, possibly wrong side and possibly dead in line with a strake.

Strake , Garmin vid I watched said portside had no issue ...strake n height might be issue

It is noting to do with brand.
Find the best location by getting a mate to drive the boat. Get it up on the plane. Go back down to the stern while your mate drives in a straight line.
Take a look over the transom and look for the place clean water is coming out. By clean I mean nice blue water without bubbles. That is the spot. It is always best to get as far down towards the centre as is possible , but if too close to the motor you will increase noise interference and may have an issue with the motor turning and touching the transducer. Height adjustment. Looking from behind when the boat is on the trailer. The complete face of the transducer should be below the boat 10mm or so. So one side might be 20mm and the other 10mm due to the deadrise.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Mount a block of poly to the transom so you can adjust heights without having to put screw holes all through your transom
