Cruise ships

Post by Texas » Sun Apr 05, 2020 6:32 pm

I don't know much about maritime law or stuff like that
BUT, shouldn't they be allowed to tie up at a wharf in case someone needs medical help ??
I know most, if not all, of the crews are not Australian, but, we are all together in this
Sending them away with no port wanting them does not sit well with me.
Sending helicopters to ships out at sea is very expensive and quite dangerous
What's your opinion ????
Cheers Gra

Where are the ships flagged? They should be heading to their home ports.

I think they are handling them ok, except for the ruby princess and some other one that they cocked up.
They have allowed docking and medical help afaik, just no-one was allowed to leave the ship and come ashore.

Texas .. i thinl our government have gone above and beyond to assist these cruise ships as indicated by this article :

https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-04- ... fmredir=sm

Can't think many of other countries would have allowed the cruise ships to dock in the first instance let alone putting in the effort to assist in the logistics of sorting out the crews so they can actually can get home to family and friends.

Whatever your political persuasion, the government's at all level have done a dammed good job in uncharted territory - of course there are things that could have been done better but overall we are lucky to be here than many other places overseas.

I couldn't agree more, about the government
Ask that question during the fires, the answer may have been different (federally)
I just couldn't understand sending the cruise ships away
Since watching 60 minutes, I understand a bit more, but, I'm still not 100% convinced
I don't know, maybe I'm too soft
May your God (maybe different in your case) be with you
Gra
P.s. - can't you fix this?? I'll get you a few chooks

Texas - your god and my god probably is the same fellow :)

Would have try to fix the issue but your chooks reward is of no use to me - I use Ducks to make offerings - they are more tastier for the table after the ceremonies are done and dusted :)

This will be a massive wake up call to the cruise ship industry, they register their ships in tax havens use foreign crews pay them a pittance. They will receive no financial assistance from there registered countries most will fail.
As for the people on the ships I believe we should look after the sick in Aus but send the rest home.
