Re the hard top van, I had racks on mine which used to hold two kayaks and the kids bikes so it can be done.

Yes there are some really good setups with Tinnys upto about 3.7m long.

We picked up an older Jayco Swan last year for $6000 and love it. It has clearly been just sitting in a garage for 20 years and hardly been used. We put new curtains in and swapped out the matresses for new ones from Clark Rubber and fixed a small bit of stitching on one of the bed ends and its good as new. There are certainly deals out there to be had if you take your time.. i was constantly searching and looking at caravan dealers for over a year before we decided to pull the trigger on the one we got. Originally we were looking to spend around $10k - $15k on an early 2000's model, but when we found this one we figured if we dont use it we can probably get our money back especially when we had seen plenty of newer models in a lot worse condition and a lot more expensive.

As a bonus, it was advertised to come with an awning which the dealer could not find, so they gave me a brand new Jayco awning which is worth around $1000.

And as others have said, you can definitely put a car topper up their with the right roof racks.

2 very different options shown here. If you havent done much camper-trailering before I strongly recommend hiring one in your preferred design before splashing out on a purchase. Everything is a compromise (like on a boat) so understanding what you are prepared to compromise on is important.

Lots of good info at MySwag

Also keep in mind the Tales From The Tinny boys are still trying to push their political ambitions which might solve your boat issue if they ever get to Victoria :rf:
