15hp 2 Stroke

Post by stockstandard » Fri Sep 13, 2013 8:33 pm

Hey guys,

Chasing an outboard for my 3.6m tinnie. Max 15hp as I think that is all the transom will take and I am looking to keep it around the 1k mark.

Cheers,
Christian

G'day Christian you might struggle to pickup a good 15hp under $1k but if you are patient and keep an eye on places like gumtree and ebay then something will come along if you are not in a hurry. Good luck and welcome to the site mate

hey mate,

Cheers for the heads up. 1k was just a rough guess really and I could look around the $1500 mark if need be to get something that is reliable.

Cheers,
Christian

Check the back page of the current bcf catalog.
Remember seeing them quite cheap.

They are the Parsun brand outboards. I have heard bad reviews about them apparently they are nothing but trouble. :shocker:

That's the cheapest you'll get into a new motor for with a decent warranty.

The tohatsu is probably better but they are more expensive.

Parsun parts are compatable with yamahas and the motors are often described as copies.

Quite a few people are using Parsun parts ie imperller kits in yamahas as they are about half the price.

When they first showed up I read that Parsun were OEM producing parts used in other outboards and decided to take the next step and built a complete motor.

Been around for awhile now and very few if any bad words said about them.

Most likely the difference will be in the quality of the coatings and corosion resistance so they may not last as long.

If the saving is there....

BTW yamaha great motors and the merc/tohatsu are also great motors. There is the odd very well priced second hand tohatsu around which is what I would be looking at.

I've only read good reviews on the parsun motors.
If a company like BCF is selling them thy must be ok

BCF will sell what ever they think will make them money.

Whilst they have some quality items they sell a lot of crap too.
