ANYONE GOING OUT TOMORROW?
Hi guys,
I'm picking up my new hobie tomorrow morning from Mornington and looking to go straight out.
Keen to stay around Mornington as I haven't fished there before.
Any suggestions on where to target squid and flathead?
Also keen for people to join along if anyone is interested.
Cheers

Ask the guys at SLH,when you pick up the kayak. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to put you onto some spots in the local area.

Re: ANYONE GOING OUT TOMORROW?
Taking boat up to Black rock to dive a Bombie and then do a night dive on the same reef. Hopefully catch some pinkies in between dives and over lunch.
Doesn't matter gunna be a beautiful day anyway. Will be great just to be out there. Should be a gorgeous morning cruising round on the yack. The reef round mornington, Lynley point should be clear calm and stunning.

I'm going to lurk around either safety beach or fishermans beach with a 100g raider and take potshots and kayakers.....
but seriously good day for squid.

Re: ANYONE GOING OUT TOMORROW?
These are by no means the best spots in Mornington, but if you are after some areas nice and close just to give your Yak a run, check out the areas I marked in RED for squid, drift over the reef tossing a squid jig about, 2.5 sized jigs work pretty well here, and try the spot marked in GREEN for flatties, just use a 2 hook paternnoster rig, size 1/0 circles, and squid or pilchard chunks for bait. Should get onto a few.
If you want to anchor on the edge of the reef for squid, it would pay to drop your flatty rig our with strips of squid too, as there might be some winter whiting about, I got 6 the other week on the reef to the left around past schnapper point, as well as 6 squid, and a dozen flatties at the spot marked in green.
It would also pay to have a metal lure out the back as you paddle around, as there might be some sambos about.
Good Luck!
