thoughts on the Stealth Profisha 525
As I'm getting old and feeble some of this fishing lark on a kayak is getting hard work and with a few of us heading off shore a bit it's time to upgrade to a faster and easier fishing ski
Most of these quick Fibre Glass fishing yaks come out of South Africa and one of my fishing mates has just become the local Stealth agent among other kayaking things
I had been going to road test a new kayak for the last week or so but the weather hasn't been kind , a window opened up on Sat so I slide down to Altona and caught up with the Sea Sherpa man at Millers Rd for that little road test of his new sports car of the kayak fishing world a Stealth Profisha 525
Anyway even Eoin hadn't got the yak wet yet so I jumped on his heavy fat Fisha 500 ( yer right these are damm sweet to ) while Eoin jumped on the 525 .We paddled out a bit and a bit of pedal adjustments got us both more comfortable we headed out into a 8 - 10 knot wind
compared to my prowler 4.3 which is not a slow kayak , god damm it these glass yaks move well with so little effort
first thing noticed is the 525 has less buoyancy at the bow that the fisha 500 and would dive more though waves ( it not a problem but there is a difference here ) of cause the sharper less buoyant bow has less resistance and cuts through the water easier
after getting out wider it was time to swap and of cause a deep water change over ( could have picked warmer water ) so I had to tip the yak up the right way and get on - first to see how that was compared to my own kayak
both operations were easy enough I was surprised how stable a 61 cm wide kayak could be to remounted - I however would like to do a few more remounts to get use to where handles and things are - as with all kayaking as a safety thing you have to be able to get back on in any conditions incase you take an unplaned dip - I don't see this being a problem with the 525
Another pedal adjustment and for me this kayak was instantly more comfortable on the longer slimmer yak
at 5.25 meters long and 61 cm wider and only 25 Kg - you would think these things would be unstable but again it's a surprise like any glass ski it feel a little tippy at first till just off vertical and the secondary stability is rock solid
So how dose it paddle, like a dream it takes very little work to get moving quite quickly and again light work to keep it moving well
being slack I forgot to take the hand held GPS to take some speed reading but a doubt it would be hard holding an 8 kph cruse speed and maybe faster
Final thoughts were what colour do they come in , cos I wont one ! and that's the truth
Basically Eoin has the go head to get one in for me - we just have to see what colours are in stock at kayak specialists in QLD ( the importer )
so Tuna and Kings look that little bit closer to me

Re: thoughts on the Stealth Profisha 525
Launched a Mornington yesterday afternoon, coming back in was made a bit difficult with all the speed humps in the way, which meant for a bit of a detour to avoid getting too close to them. Had to slow down for a few to reduce my wake, so that they had less chance of going for a swim.

Went down to sunny side then head to the Mount Martha rocks, there were a fair few boats including a charter at the mussel farm.
I went down at about 1 only to find no parking so I turned around and headed home, I went back at about 2.30 and as fortune smiled as some left and I had a spot directly in front of the ramp.
It is a bit of a bugger doing it by myself, but my son and step son have been disowned at the moment or maybe permanently.

I was there too when the charger boat was there.
Did the boat next to you catch a snapper?
There was 2 boats near me and one caught a snapper. The other boat was a guy on his own who was chatting to the boat that just caught the fish.
We were in front of the two. Fully white open centre console.

I didn't fish there, but I think you retrieved your boat as I was nearing the boat ramp.purple5ive wrote:Wolly Bugger wrote:purple5ive wrote:Qite a fair few yaks out at mornington yesterday.
