Shelter from W/SW Winds

Will be taking the yak out for its maiden voyage on Saturday, but unfortunately the forecast isn't too great.

Don't mind a bit of a spray, but want to get some shelter from the wind whilst I put it through its paces. Not a novice kayaker, but not a superhero on the water either so will be stick fairly close to shore.

Potential launch locations I'm thinking of are Sorrento front beach (fishing around the sisters) or Flinders front beach (fishing around the pier).

Both locations will suit. Just depends where you want to drive to.
Sorrento has been fishing well for squid. And plenty if yakka around flinders. Take your pick..

Careful not to get carried away too much with offshore wind. I did that on my first yak session. Looked calm and sheltered, I didn't realise I got drifted too far off the beach. The further away from the beach, the stronger the wind. Paddling back was hard.
Wind 20kmh or less is generally good.
Good luck and have fun!

If this is your first yak/trip on it get a drift chute and maybe wait for lower winds before heading out... I'm waiting till Sunday morning myself for the winds to die down. If you can't go sunday maybe just go to somewhere with a breakwall to practice. If it's just a new/replacement yak and you already know what you're doing ignore me, chuck your chute out and enjoy yourself!

Went out today and got two squid. Weather was actually ok - lots of sail boats around though. Good day to just familiarise myself with the yak. Looking forward to the next session!

Yeah I ended up with some squid and a big cuttlefish as well in the morning.
Was really blowing , once the southerly change came through , it must have been more pleasant.

Glad you had fun mate!
