Potential lure fishing setup

hey guys

what are your opinions on running a 7 foot 2-4kg veritas with a 2000 daiwa aird lt?
would be for fishing plastics and hardbodies, aird would be spooled with 8lb braid.
i've heard a lot of good stuff about the veritas and also had a feel/play around with one in a tackle shop.
whats the aird like? its got good reviews but i've had no hands on experience with it. are there better reels for a similar or cheaper price? (~100 bucks),
also worth noting that i'd prefer a smaller profile, i'm not a fan of chunky/heavy reels

I’d spend a bit more and get a legalis, though the aird is good. Personally I would use 6lb braid instead of 8 on a 2000. Haven’t used the veritas so don’t know about it.

I have the AIRD X and the drag was crap only used it once for 20 mins then grabbed my other rod .
I replaced the the drag stack with carbon washers and while it isn't the best reel it's ok for the $90 i paid ......

True, probably wiser to go for a 2500 for the fishing I do.
Legalis looks good and is only a fraction more expensive, are there any significant differences?
Legalis is also a comparable price to a shimano sedona which could also be worth looking into.

I stripped off supposed 4lb braid off a 2000 and replaced it with 18lb braid that was the exact same thickness as the supposedly lighter line

Veritas is a good rod, very light, you can cast all day without getting tired too quickly.
Aird isnt very smooth. I'd go at least exceller or legalis. You need something light to match the rod.
If possible, wait for sale and get Freams. I wrote a review about my freams 2000, very nice mid range reel.

Veritas are great, I have the same one. I would go a 1000 size real, nice and light with 4lb braid, especially when fishing plastics and lures, it allows you to reel the lures in a bit slower which is important with the type of fishing you are going to do. I would go a Sienna over the aird if your looking at a lower budget

Don't skimp on the braid - a lot of people invest in a nice rod & reel for lure fishing but can't cast because they buy cheap braid. IMO a $50 Sienna reel with $50 braid on it will perform much better than a $100 reel with cheap braid.

For sure. I was gonna go with some j-braid 8x or j-braid grand, my other setups run less expensive stuff but I feel like better braid would be appropriate for the combo.

Legalis is a whole league better than a sedona, don’t bother looking into it. If you want a shimano thats on par with the legalis a nasci is good.
