'Ajing' Ultra-light rod?
Hi all,
Since I'm so good at catching tiny fish, I have had an interest in 'Ajing'. Also known as ultra-light fishing for 'yakka' / yellowtail scad / horse mackerel.
These rods are built for 5lb line or lighter, flicking microplastics. E.g. less than an inch, anywhere from 0.5grams up to 5g or 10g.
I've seen there's a small scene in Vic based on some facebook groups, with a lot of people fishing down Mornington with some success. Typically under the lights on jettys around here.
Thing is, hard to find a rod locally that hits those specs. I can import one for a reasonable price from Japan, but to make the free shipping thresholds I always have to buy a load of extra gear which makes me feel happy inside but also removes the point of buying a reasonably priced rod.
So - any Aji rods in Australia?

I use an Itchy Twitchy. It's rated to cast lures down to 1.5g. A .5 gram jighead + the weight of a plastic = 1.5g, give or take. This style of fishing accounts for ... most of my fishing. I don't think you need to order something specially unless you're really obsessive.

Also look at mebaru rods for something fairly similar. I have a majorcraft skyroad t702m and x-ride t732m which do the job for the yakkas etc. but I mostly use them for bream.
If this is something you are doing on the regular have a look at some slightly lighter more sensitive rods, even if it's just a drop down to the drunk monkey. The additional sensitivity you'll get will help out quite a bit when they aren't committingChrisTaylor wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 5:15 pmI use an Itchy Twitchy. It's rated to cast lures down to 1.5g. Nibble tip rods come in very light sensitive models... I would have though these are perfect for super light lines.

Looks like CarlG is the man to speak to.
I have my eye on a Major Craft First Cast UL rod, something silly like 2 or 3lb line and 3lb leader!
I first caught wind of Ajing on IsoFishingLifestyle, they have a nice looking beginner's kit but it is a bit steep for dipping a toe in!
The drunk monkey is a nice looking rod too, closest I've seen to a proper dedicated 'Aji' rod on sale here. Need to suss out the nibble tips too.
