Advice on a cheap Garfish reel?

Post by fishaholic » Sun Jun 21, 2020 7:08 pm

Hi guys,
I'm after a cheap decent quality reel for Garfish fishing with a 10 year old.
I have an old Mojiko Tournament rod, just need a matching reel. This will just be a beater used for gars, etc.
Budget around $50-$70
Was thinking either a Shimano Sienna or Diawa crossfire.
Any feedback on these two reels or other suggestions?
Thanks :tu:

I actually just found a reel I've never seen before: Daiwa Luxel $70 reduced to $40

Anyone had a play with the Luxel?

Edit* just saw it's an Anaconda exclusive: https://daiwafishing.com.au/products/luxel

If it's an Anaconda exclusive it's probably got the same internals as a reel 10% cheaper.

Get a Penn Slammer 260. Absolutely bullet proof reels, should be within your budget on Dinga.

I think all those would work great, anything in the 2000, 2500 range is perfect.

I have the Sienna size 2500 on a rod that use for garfish, they're a nice inexpensive reel. Caught plenty of other mixed species from flathead to squid using the reel. Fishing every 2-3 days for 9 months, only minor maintenance has been a light oiling. Shimano or Daiwa you can't go wrong.

$70 for a Garfish reel??? I must be on a completely different page to you guys lol.

My garfish rig is a $5 hand reel that i permanently have sitting in the boat ready to go. But if i was setting up a rod for targeting Garfish i would not spend any more than $30 or so on a Shimano Hyperloop or some cheap Jarvis Walker or something similar.
