Shimano Nasci FC - loose main shaft

Post by Sneaky1 » Sun Apr 24, 2022 3:38 pm

Got myself a Nasci FC 2500HG in Jan this year to flick SP's. Great little unit, however I’ve noticed the main shaft is quite loose, that is it moves by a couple of mm left/right & top/bottom – is this normal?

I really don't want to mess with it as the reel is near-new, I've contacted both Shimano AU and the reseller - see what they say.
The reel is four months old, used just a few times - how can it come loose?

I've also checked my ancient Daiwa Tierra TD - it's also on the wobbly side but that reel is 12+ years old!

Shimano come with a 10 year warranty, I always buy mine from BCF or Anaconda, that way I can just take them back and het a new one

Yeah, best move is to not messing with the reel and taking the warranty route. Not worth risking a potential fix and voiding it if they're potentially able to offer a replacement.

Could be a range of things, maybe a manufacturing error that made it through quality control? You'd expect a certain % to have to flaws. Or they could say the wobble could be within reasonable wear, or even within the adjustment expected? You never know.
See what they say, hopefully they're easy with a replacement.

Dinga (reseller): we don't have stock and can't check, go to Shimano
Shimano: this play is normal

Somehow I'm not convinced :(
If anyone else has a Nasci FC, please check before I take this further?

If you have a BCF nearby go compare yours with their stock, they carry the Nasci FC.

Top/bottom or up/down movement of the spool on the shaft is normal (pun intended) :te: Side to side should not happen unless there is a bearing issue or loose nut.

Take out the spool and check the nut that holds the shaft to the rotor.
