I've never fished Port Albert but in all seriousness, you will just get snagged. Some people micro jig off piers for Salmon and the like but you don't need a big heavy outfit for that. What species are you trying to jig?

Sure would mate, the 2-4 kilo rod you mentioned that you had should do the trick. That way if the jigs don't work you can put on a plastic or even a blade. I would by some Gulp turtleback worms in pumpkinseed color and a 1/4 oz jig head and bounce it off the bottom

When you say jigging, do you mean bouncing a soft plastic or jigging a metal blade (which commonly vertical)?
