Re: baitcaster rod
I watch heaps of them but when it comes to baitcasters, those yanks use huge lures and it's a big difference here in australia. But yeah, I love the catfish canoodling and the bow fishing invasive species

Re: baitcaster rod
I was in the same situation a few years ago. I was after a light baitcaster setup for flicking small plastics in skinny waters for Bass...I ended up making my own rod.
I bought a blank for about $100 that had the specs I wanted (not too whippy with a stiffer mid section), guides and grips for about another $100. It was actually quite easy to build, just took a bit of time and plenty of Youtubing. I paired it with an Omen 13 Concept KP reel for about $250.
It turned out perfect for what I was targeting, though it definitely has it's limitations with heavier lures and bigger fish. The main thing is that I've ended up with a setup that's perfectly suited to a particular style of fishing.
My advice would be...if you're serious about that style of set-up, custom make the rod yourself. You can tune the action by juggling the guide distances until you're satisfied with the action.

Re: baitcaster rod
Here's some pics.
I forgot to mention that I went with a 2 piece rod, it's a lot stiffer through the middle section than a one piece rod. I was so impressed with it I ended up making a spin rod from the same blank, giving me a matched pair for spin and baitcast.
I couldn't resist making a sticker for it.

Re: baitcaster rod
I have a 3-6kg Daiwa Laguna baitcaster rod with a Savage black 100 and it is the only light weight rod I could find that I actually liked the feel of. I think I paid $90 for it. I only use 3 magnets on the reel and I can cast a 3inch soft plastic on a 1/16th jighead, might be worth checking out at BCF
