Gliss

Post by skronkman » Wed Jun 08, 2016 12:43 pm

Has anyone out there tried Gliss fishing line yet? I've just bought and spooled up some and it looks very impressive. It's crazy thin, no stretch, no memory. It seems to be everything that good braid is but better and only $35 for 300 meters! I've been a fan of 8 ply braid I buy for $35/km from China for a while but the wind knots are driving me crazy while squid fishing. Hopefully this stuff isn't as bad for them. And I reckon it'll cast for a mile. I'll give it a good crack with lures when they stock the dams for school holidays and let you know.

A few people have had issues with it, I think there are some threads here if you hunt around. Never used it myself though.

I have never heard of it but $35 for 300 metres is very cheap for braid

Thanks 4l, I have now belatedly searched the forum and found a few threads related to Gliss and they are not that positive. I'll get back with my own experience when I get some.

It's not actually braid but some sort of PE fibre. It's very smooth and thin and does sort of fray at the end when you cut it. Sort of like dental floss.....

I would like to know how you go with that mate. $35 is usually how much I would pay for 150 metres of braid!

Im using Berkley Nanofil, $30 for 150 yards. Haven't had a problem with wind knots and still sensitive enough to feel the squid hitting the jigs.

I haven't tried it yet but toying with the idea.

I don't think it's an out and out replacement for braid I see it more as a straight through alternative to fluorocarbon when a bit of finesse is needed for presenting to fussy fish.

It seems like a pretty new product, it might be one of those things that needs a bit of improvement and refinement before it is as durable and reliable as other lines.

Ads tried it and didn't like it, said it frayed and got fluffy.

It's cheap, you get what you pay for. Perfectly functional for a lot of applications but not a top end line.

Have started using it for distance casting and find it good in the slightly thicker breaking strains , I have put the 11 kg high vis on my reels and getting very impressive distances with it. Durability will be an issue that I will be able to comment on later on but initial test have been interesting :water:
