12 pound ok for main?
Hi,
As folks know i recently brought a setup for squid fishing now ive got a spool of 12 pound bream line i brought last year when i got a whiting outfit now heres my question, would 12 pound line be fine or should i go for a smaller rated line since my rod says up to 12 is recomended and i dont want to break it.
Thanks for any help.

It's probably fine if you're sensible with it. Don't lock your drag and use a gaff or a net instead of deadlifting bigger units.

I use 10 lb braid line and 10 lb leader. Good enough. Try not to get snagged on a thick weed or s rock though.

I’m with 4litres. I go heavier these days so I get my jigs back. Just don’t high stick the rod if you’re trying to get free

Re: 12 pound ok for main?
I’d be fishing 20lb braid and 20lb leader as a min for squid.
You can go lighter. It’s just more expensive as you lose jigs. Doesn’t change catch rate

I say 20lb and if cet snagged.can pull a jig out hopefully.
Just keep the rod pointed straight pointed at water same.angle as the line and then you can apply more pressure
