Unless you absolutely have to use braid - and most situations don't - just use good monofilament and tie simple uniknots.
(waiting for the flak!)

This is what i have found is the easiest way for me to personally tie the FG knot, its very simple to learn.
it doesnt work as good with lines that are under 10lb, anything higher than 10lb its perfect

FG on everything when I have the time and light to tie it. PR on heavy stuff if I have a bobbin handy. Slim beauty all times I don't have time, light or patience

Safety in numbers Bud, I agree.
Bring on the flack :te:

I have braid (begrudgingly) on two surf outfits. And that's for casting distance, so as to "fang" it out far (to where the fish are and to compensate the shortcomings of the Councils for not rebuilding some Jetties to their original length). But also, it seems to be able to "un-snag" rigs better than mono. Mono gives you that "5 metre walk backwards" stretch before it goes "ping" and you lose everything. Braid more often saves the rig and brings up a bit of the reef in-lieu of a waving mono tail of nudda.

That being said, each to their own and it's all about each of us being on our own learning curve.

Cheers, Bug
