Leader line length

How long is your leader? Especially fishing with lures.

For bream, I use 2-3m fluorocarbon.
For others like snapper, flatty, cod, yellas, mostly I use a rod length (6-7ft).

Do you think longer leader line can make much difference for e.g. cod yella flatty snapper redfin? Or 6-7ft is more than enough?

Great question sebb, i like to make sure that my leader is always on the spool a couple of turns. While yaking i always have 2-3 mtr of leader otherwise the braid tends to wrap around the rod if the leader isn't long enough. A lot would depend of water clarity too, but as a safeguard, i always have a couple of mtrs of leader. I have used straight braid before and it doesn't get as many hits

I also use roughly a rod length or so. Basically two arm lengths of leader when i am tying a new rig. Unless i am using a swivle, in which case its more like 1m of leader for a double paternoster.

Is there a problem if your leader goes on the spool? and the knot between the main line and the leader runs accross the guides?

No, never really had a problem, I use a double uni knot but there are slimmer knots around

About 2 meters for me but it slowly reduces in length as I change over lures if I’m not using fastach clips. I probably should change my leader more often now that I think of it.

I also use a double uni and never have any problems for the fishing i do. But it would possibly be an issue when you are using larger breaking strain leader (40 or 60lb+).

If you want to get into it there's a few considerations other than visibility to think about for leader length. The main two are stretch and buoyancy. If you're running fluoro with surface lures a long leader will sag on the pause and can mess up the action a bit and for shallow runners it can cause them to run deeper. A long leader will stretch more which can be to either help them eat the lure properly (especially for implosion feeders) or for shock absorbsion during the fight. I think if you're getting into it it's worth playing round with some different leader lengths and finding what suits you

When you are referring to leader line, do you mean the length of line from where the braid is connected to some sort of connection/swivel where the righ starts ie hook and sinker.?
