I tried fused lines for a bit but really really didn't like them.

Has there been any significant upgrades in the past 5ish years?

Not that I am aware off. It is all pretty much the same.

Some of the semi fused braid started to use a teflon coating around 5 years ago, feels very slipery and is probably the thinest braid available for the breaking strain.
