Going by 'tackleshop' advice, I was told if the hook was the wrong way around, it would change the action of the lure. Going by this, I'd say the tail hook is the wrong way around....still not convinced this is true to be honest.
*Find I have a better hook up rate with trebles
I reckon that might be true on smaller lures. for example; Changing treble size on a small lure will change it's action and change how it sinks/suspends.

I don't think it would make much difference with a big lure like a xrap20 or 30. The river2sea vibes that i use for pelagic's have swivels to the hooks..

Anth, the reason they have swivels is to make sure that fish doesn’t get the leverage point to bend them open. It just changes the mechanics. Or so I’m told

Could the changeover to singles and the direction they are placed be a nod to how game fishing lures are rigged perhaps

Or better yet put 3 hooks on the back at 120 degrees increments

That makes sense Aaron. I've landed a few tuna with one hook in each corner of the mouth and they didn't go anywhere even after the tuna doing it's typical circles coming up to the boat.

If it’s a sinking lure it’s hook up. Floating lure from a boat not that important.
Land based I have em up no matter which lure.
Singles are easier to remove & don’t do as much damage so you can release fish.
Fish caught on trebles & released have a far lower survival rate.
