I'm pretty lucky here in point cook. Bcf, anaconda, Trellys Laverton, kmart and hooked on bait tackle, all within 15 mins drive. Work in city, so there's that CA Melbourne too.
Think hooked on is the pick there.
+ 1. Michael at hooked on lives and breathes fishing. Just let him know your ‘level’ of understanding of what you are after and you will get the best service, particularly if you don’t have much of an idea, as I didn’t (still don’t ???) when I began fishing a few years ago.
BCF etc sometimes have staff that don’t have much knowledge.
Had a chat with mick around Xmas time nice bloke does his best to help if I lived over that way I would go there more often excellent shop.

I remember going in to the old store when i got my old tinny a few years back looking for a cheap rod to lend to mates who didnt have their own gear. Mick looked after me and didnt try to sell me something outrageous. I think the rod ended up costing me about $40, it is still going strong today and has well and truly landed its worth in fish .
