Cup day morning session.

Post by Lightningx » Wed Nov 06, 2019 12:02 pm

Hi guys,

On cup day, my mate and I made an early morning launch meeting up at the boat ramp at 3 am. The plan was to have the baits in the water well before sunrise.

The ramp wasn’t too bad at that time of the morning and made launching easy and it wasn’t long before we were on the water.

I had a few places in mind. A quick drive and we were anchored in 14 metres.
Put our spread of baits out consisting of fresh pillies, squid and sauries. We also started cubing and just waited. Didn’t take long before we were plagued by small flatties.
Just didn’t feel it there so we made a move to a spot in the 16 metre line.
Same thing put all baits out and sat back.
First hook up was a banjo and then followed by another one not long after.

We had a couple of standard rigs out the back with a small ball sinker and 2 5/0 gamagatus hooks and 1 snapper snatcher on either side of the boat just straight down.

Not much was happening but just before sunrise I see a tentative bite on the snatcher next to me and the next thing I know it buckles over!!!

I feel some good head shakes and got excited but didn’t want to get too excited just yet. The fish gave up a good fight and up comes the colour we were looking for! It’s a red! I call for the big net and my mate lands it in the net nicely.

A quick measure and the fish measures in at 75cm :)

We quickly put some more baits back in but unfortunately no more luck after that. We fished until about 9 but then called it and headed back to the ramp.

We plan on going again next week!

Yea Seb would be around there. Probably like 4-4.5 kgs I’d say :P
Now is the perfect time to be targeting them man!
Go chase them once this bloody wind dies down. I have a wedding to go to this weekend so won’t be able to launch again this week so having another crack at it next week for sure as long as the weather is alright :tu:

Now that's a fish :tu: Well done.

You're right, even with the best plans, sometimes you're not feeling it. Always best to listen to the gut, and back the knowledge , , , , a move and "BAM" a buckled over rod.

Well done LX
