Ive talked wth 2 different guys whom dont know each other about Whiting fishing old ways.
They both advised me many years ago there was an old fisho out of Queenscliff with a wood boat that chased large Whiting;
His technique was a hand line attached to a 1 foot long dowel rod with a bell on it and stuch into a rod holder on the other end was aheavy sinker and about 15ft of leader/the length of his boat- and a hook
Must have worked as he did this for years.
There you go no Braid there

I am using mono for whiting. Where i am currently fishing there is basically zero tide. The fish are in about 2mtrs of water, so I slack line fish with a small sinker, let them take it and run, then hit it. A bit like bait fishing for bream. I have had to adjust my technique for the different conditions.

I always used mono for whiting but much like Re tired I used to fish in 2 to 3mtrs with no current, but I always had another rod with braid because i used to like catching them on plastics
