100% mate, i wouldn't want it to be alive and somehow get off the hook, they were all dead when I used them for bait. the ones I didn't use were returned to the water dead. they are the saltwater carp I guess.
Have you tried fishing the river with the crabs? I've never fished there but it looks like it would hold fish

here's the full report :tu:

GEAR
on Wednesday night, I got all my gear packed, checked and ready. I took the usually tackle, some hooks for surf fishing and some hooks for pier fishing.
I took leader lines and the usual cleaning stuff, knives, foldable chopping board etc.
as for rods, I took my 2 surf rods, one Alvey and one Shimano, both had Alvey side cast reels on them. I took 3 peir fishing rods, my 2-4 kilo Shimano Catana, my 2-4 kilo Shimano quickfire, and my Alvey SR100+ 7 foot 9-kilo rod for heavier fish. as for reels, I put my Shimano Siena 2500HG on my Catana, and my Shimano Hyperloop 2500FB( both reels had kilo 6-kilo braid on them ).
if someone could explain to me what the whole FG, HG, FB etc thing is that would be much appreciated.
I had a few handlines with some 5-kilo mono on them and I had heaps of lures: hardbodies, soft plastics, squid jigs, poppers, metal lures/slices, vibes, and sabiki rigs.

GETTING TO PORT ALBERT- first fish
I left at 7:30 from my house near violet town, did a pit stop in Shepparton for some things, and went to Melbourne. it took around 2-2 1/2 hours to get there, the traffic was actually pretty good because we left a day before the school holidays started. I spent around 1 hour in Melbourne visiting my sister and other people, then headed off again. I got to port Albert at around 4:30 because the traffic was a bit worse than at the start of the day, and unpacked everything. I was renting a really nice holiday house right on the edge of the water, with a view of the whole port. I finished unpacking everything and put my pier fishing gear in the car. I went to the general store and picked up a pack of pilchards and squid. I got to the pier and put out 2 rods, the Catana and the Quickfire. I fished until 6:00 when the sun went down and got one bite on the Catana.

DAY 2
I got up at around 6:00 and was at the pier at 8:00. I had 3 rods out and fished until 1:00 or 2:00. I caught one flat head that was 23 cm and had heaps of big bites.
I fished for a bit of the night and didn't catch anything.

DAY 3
I got up around 6:30 and got all my beach fishing gear ready. I got to the beach around 10:00 and fished for a few hours. I got lots of bites but no hooks ups on pilchards, and the bites took some drag out. I was using size 5 or 6 hooks. I'm thinking it was just skates but who knows, anything could be in the surf.

LAST DAY
I got up around 8:00, packed up and left by 9:30. I fished for a bit but it was mega windy so I just went home.

This was a great trip and it was over way too soon, I will definitely go back. port Albert is just such a nice little town. i only caught an undersized flathead but I am more than happy with it.

thanks guys, this took a while to write lol,
