crabs and mussels, safe to eat from port albert?

Post by fisho999 » Mon Nov 14, 2022 8:33 am

hey all,
I was just wondering if mussels from the pier and crabs I catch by hand at port Albert are safe to eat or if the water there is bad?
here's a list of the crabs I found while at port Albert
green shore crab (I know they are a pest)
red shore crab- I found heaps of these but put them back because I wasn't sure about restrictions and how bad the water is. I know all the regulations now.
spider crab- I don't know if these are common in the port Albert area but I saw one clinging onto a pillar at the pier. I attempted to catch it but I took too long trying and it swam off. it wasn't the giant variant but it was around the size of an average sized dinner plate.

thanks,
