bermagui 12th march
After 5 fishless days we were getting depressed we launched a round 730am and headed to the 12 mile southern end the wind was about 5 knots but by mid afternoon forecast to be above 35 knots.
We had decided to just tow live baits 2 up high 1 on the downrigger at 60 mt. Plenty of bait slimies down around 80 mt a cople of drops and we have enough We started trolling 2 knots speed there was a little bird action but no seals we saw some dolphins working and headed over. We marked a fish deep it came up to the down rigger depth then kept coming up bang the left rigger pops 1 growl from the tiagra then nothing, 10 seconds later the right rigger pops and the tiagra is howling dean is on the rod he grabs it I bring in the downrigger live baits put up the out riggers decks clear.
We harness dean up and he settles in to a fight of around 40 minutes 10 times he had the double on the rod before he was ready to be traced. It was a black marlin around 100kg of the 3 types I have caught my least favorite they go deep rarely jump just poke their heads out and shake it.they also throw their stomachs which in 1 photo you can see they suck them back in once released but we usually push it back in.
We were off the water by 1230 with the wind around 20 knots its my turn on the rod tomorrow light winds forecast, we also saw a tailing marlin today signs ghey arr moving in
