I fish Quail bank a lot for my squid and I always see monster rock and bluespot flathead cruising around in 1.5m of water on the outgoing tide. They’ve even hit my squid jig numerous times. Talking 45cm + Flathead. Don’t see the point in keeping 30cm or so Flathead
I heard of blig tlat head in the shallows but never caught any

I see them every time I go onto the bank with the right tide, been meaning to target them with plastics but haven’t got around to it. Would be very fun.

What size jighead would you use for westernport and what type of plastic?

Ok, so once you find them and anchor, do you cast pass where you think they are slowly 'roll' the bait back to the boat or
cast on top of them and wait or
a bit of both, and find what is working on the day.

When anchored, is it best to use a patenoster rig or running sinker rig?, or, again, try and see what is working on the day.

I drift shallow around Altona and Williamstown.

Thanks in advance.
Anchored = running
Drifting = patenoster

I been catching flathead for over 15 years and never change rigs.
I just stayed with a paganoster rig
Any tips on the paternoster rig you use?
Double or single? Length of attachments.
Bait?
Or does it generally depend on the location etc. you can do exactly the same thing in the same conditions the day after bagging out on flatties (or anything) and get zilch the next day!

Thanks

I have 2 flathead marks on westenport and they are good spots and can pick up 20 ot 30 each time.
I dont fish for fladhead often down here cos i get much bigger fillets at bermagui so only try down here if i runnout of my 20 to 30kg hauls from bermagui.
I only fish calm days and the odd day down here.

My rigs are home made. Ill take a pic tomorrow and measure it all out.
