7/3/2019
My mate and I met up at St Kilda ramp at 6:30 am and after grabbing a coffee we launched and headed towards our destination in the hope of getting onto some whitings.
In calm conditions it didn't take long before we arrived and dropped the anchor and the burley pot. Set up 4 rods all with live pippies as bait and sat back and waited.
It really didn't take that long and within the first 10 minutes we had our first whiting in the boat.
After that came some unwanted species including some very big puffers and some banjoes.
Then a seal came but luckily for us it didn't hang around for long. We were thinking of moving location but decided to stay as the seal had moved on.
Good thing we did stay as not long after the seal had moved on the bites started again with a nice double header coming in both good sizes in the high 30s.
We ended up with 15 good size ones. lost 4 or 5 at the back of the boat due to bad hook ups.
Got 1 squid which was caught on the jig just left in the holder and a nice flattie as well.
The wind started to pick up so we decided to call it a day but on the way back we came across a bust up of salmon with birds diving everywhere but my friend accidentally hooked an albatross and that became a problem in itself. Lucky I had my huge net in the boat. We got it in the boat but the treble had imbedded itself in the birds wing so while my mate held it down I removed the treble which took some time but in the end was very glad to see it fly away again
Was a fun morning on the water.
