Fisherman's beach, Mornington 18/05/2019
Checked the weather and straight away thought of kayak fishing. Still wanting to catch some whitings, I packed my kayak and planned for Mornington whitings and squids.
Fishing time : 18/05/2019 3pm-6pm
Weather : 20 degrees sunny and dropped to 15 degrees.
Wind : 10 kmh SSW
Moon : 99%
Barometer : 1025 and slightly increasing
High tide : 2:40pm
Bait : squid strips, pipis, pilchard
Rigs : paternoster as it's weedy with some rocky bottom. 10 lb line 1/0 KL hook.
Squid jig : shimano egixile red 2.5 on 8 lb line.
The fishing:
Being south wind, the area was well covered and it was only around 10 kmh, very easy paddle. Saw few boats straight out off the beach around the markers, few divers on the rocky point. So I paddled further to the left/south towards mt martha.
Set two bait rods and straight away got plenty of actions, got me occupied I couldn't get time to cast the squid jig. Unfortunately mostly undersized pinkies and leather jackets/triggers.
Second cast on the squid jig and on! I tried to cast the squid jig in between busy actions of the two bait rods. There was a time I was busy the the bait rods, I had my squid jig just hanging on the side of my kayak and a squid took it!
By 5pm I was running out of bait, retired the two bait rods and focused on the squid.
4x leather jacket/triggers
10x undersized pinkies
7x squids
I could've bagged out the squid but it was getting really dark. Not a good idea to be on a yak with tiny head torch.
No whitings, but oh well...
Now what am I going to do with 1.3 kg of squids

Nice mate. That's a great report.
Now is the time to use lures in that area for pinkies. I wouldnt bother with bait next time..
Cheers

Yeah I should've brought plastics. I was targetting whitings, hence the bait.purple5ive wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 5:49 pmNice mate. That's a great report.

Another great report seb!
Those squid look decent size mate. All for a feed or are you going to use some for fresh bait?
Well done. Nice work :a_goodjob:

Gonna freeze the heads for snapper in spring or mulloway in August. Maybe use the wings for whitings bait.Lightningx wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 9:16 pmAnother great report seb!

Sebby, love ya work Bud.
The photos show that you are "living the dream", looks like an awesome place to fish too. Great that you got onto the Squid and the jackets :a_goodjob:
On the not getting the Tings , , , , I can show you where they are
But I did notice the Lemons that you use, in this photo and in your recipe photos. What Lemons are they? They almost look like The Thing from Fantastic 4.
I have Eureka Lemons, the tree has lemons all year round.
Cheers, The Bug
