Re: Safety - EPIRB/PLB, flares, essential?
I've had this PLB with GPS tracking for just on two years now, my wife bought it for me seeing as I always fish alone..
A very good investment for sure.. hopefully I never have to use it, but it's there if I need too.. have it attached to my waders..
Battery life is seven years.. very easy to register online too..
cheers
Adrian

Once you register or re-register it every 3 years you will get an email like this

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Re: Safety - EPIRB/PLB, flares, essential?
If I've got some flares that are going to expire soon, could I just set them off one night out the farm?? miles from anywhere, several hours from the coast?

Re: Safety - EPIRB/PLB, flares, essential?
I have a PLB that goes on all solo fishing trips and camping trips, always in the car or backpack, it wasn't that dear but then price against life it doesn't matter what it cost really, if I never have to use it, good. cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Re: Safety - EPIRB/PLB, flares, essential?
I would strongly recommend all boaters use SafeTrx, a tracking, logging app developed by the Coastguard.
https://coastguard.com.au/safetrx/
It allows you to log trips, it send regular positional updates (using location service of your mobile device) and provides automated overdue notification and escalation.
The app and service is free, but I would urge people to make donation to a very worth organisation.
