Land based fishing near Melton
Hi all, new to the forum. I am knocking off work and keen to get into a bit of freshwater fishing. Just after some spots were I might be able to catch something. Looking at doing some lure fishing. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum mate Pykes Creek reservoir is only 20 minutes away and always fishes well for reddies spinning

Re: Land based fishing near Melton
Hi maysonh, I am not sure about lure fishing locations these days, darlingsford lake used to or could still be stocked with trout around school holidays, other than that it will take some searching to find Redfin. Use google earth to find water with vegetation, then have a look in person. If you see baitfish around the edges your in with a chance there will be something in there that will eat them. There doesn’t seem to be much water that has enough vegetation to sustain a decent population of predators, but there are some around.
However if you want to do your bit for the environment, most waterways in Melton hold carp. It can be challenging sight casting tiny poppers to carp, when not wanting to do a big session a mate and I catch up for a fish and chin wag in Melton doing exactly this, it can be a lot of fun.
EDIT: darlingsford lake stocked with 500 trout two months ago, and due to be stocked with 500 this month.
Navan Park 600 trout two months ago, and due to be stocked with 600 this month

Try melton reservoir, big carp in the reservoir mate. Not trout maybe some estuary perch but melton is carp town.
