As it turns out, I was born in Eastern Europe in 1961 when the wall went up. Spent half my childhood there and I'm not a fan but no doubt you'd think welding apartment doors shut in Woohan was good Socialist policy.

Lockdown isn't what saved us from that graph. It was the proper securing of borders and proper quarantine instead of go home self isolation rubbish. This was only implemented less than a month ago, till then there was not as much as a temperature check of the thousands pouring through airports. And it is a fact that near 80% of all Australian infections were traced to these overseas arrivals....fix that and our graph flattened. I'm all for doing what works.

Socialism is a good thing? :rf: How old are you mate, travelled much?
I think Capitalism has had its day, cant have 0.1% of population own everything....I think the way the world is now & where it's heading, Socialism might be the answer. :tu:

Hard to argue it wasn’t effective, if maybe a little over the top. Simply telling people to STFAH seems to be dropping the rate of spread here so unless they unlock everything too soon we can probably get away without the welding

When the US federal reserve is seriously considering nationalising the S&P500 to prop up share prices it does have a kind of end of times feel to it (as far as capitalism is concerned anyway).

The US is certainly going to emerge a shadow of it's former self, it seems ironic that the blame will fall squarely in the lap of the post-Reagan Republicans too, although the chuds will blame Obama until their dying breath.

Not in our nanny state bug

Our uunwise jumbo sized ear lobed premier has repeatedly said from the very beginning that no one in government will give police any form of lists or guidelines on how to interpret the health departments do's and donts. Its a very real possibility by this time next week, the amount of withdrawn fines will surpass the states death toll from the virus.
Point taken cobby, and I do feel for you guys.

Here (in SA) they haven't discounted Fishing and they have at least acknowledged that Fishing is as important as any other activity that is deemed to be acceptable. As long as we abide by all the same social distancing rules, as with all other activities.

Here in SA, I don't think we are "more" compliant than any other state , , , , but here, there have been far fewer fines issued , , , , compared to other states.

Our Premier, Steven Marshall

Is a Politician , , , , and has taken his Politician Hat off and has put on his Leader Hat on and he has shown decent Leadership through this period (as best as can be , that is).

Also, I was in a Compliance role for many years, years back and I know and still keep in touch with many Police Officers here in SA. Most are understanding but admit that there are some in their ranks that are [INSERT MEANIE NAME :te: ]

Well ask yourself what percentage of the 1.5 billion people in China own everything?

I’m not sure socialism popped up here in this forum. Used to have a mate who is dead now but he grew up in Poland, you certainly wouldn’t want to praise socialism or life in a communist country near him, he’d take your head off. Plenty of people risk their lives and also die trying to get to countries like Australia and America, says a bit about the system we live under and also take for granted in some cases.
